The Jaipur Literature Festival is one of the most anticipated events for bookworms and bibliophiles. This year, the much-awaited festival will be conducted virtually in view of the pandemic. Though it conducted every year in January, this year it will take place in February. The pandemic has brought several changes to the dynamics revolving around the annual literature festival, keenly looked forward to by thousands of connoisseurs of books, literature, debates, and discussions in India and beyond for more than a decade.

The virtual edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival 2021 has been scheduled from February 19 to 21 and February 26 to 28. The first list of speakers has already been announced. This will be the 14th annual Jaipur Literature Festival to be conducted.

Every year, a large variety of activities are conducted at the Jaipur Literature Festival. This year, there will be a large array of speakers attending the event and imparting knowledge. As per reports, there will be around 100 speakers this year.

Over 100 speakers at Jaipur Literature Festival 2021

Teamwork Arts, which produces the Jaipur Literature Festival, has stated, “The Festival has announced its first list of speakers. With over 100 speakers expected to attend the 2021 edition, the first list includes Albie Sachs, Bibek Debroy, Carlo Rovelli, Daniel Simpson, John Zubrzycki, Marina Wheeler, Michael Sandel, Moin Mir, Moni Mohsin, Navtej Sarna, Oliver Craske, Prasoon Joshi, Priya Atwal, Ramachandra Guha, Ranjit Hoskote, Sarbpreet Singh, Shashi Tharoor, Shylashri Shankar, Simon Winchester, Stephen Brusatte. The programming this year will bring together a diverse mix of the world’s greatest writers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders, sportspersons, and entertainers, speaking on a range of subjects to enthusiastic audiences,” Teamwork Arts further stated.

Before the Corona pandemic, the Jaipur Literature Festival, often described as 'greatest literary show on Earth', had become a much sought annual affair with thousands of people visiting the Pink City in January every year to be a part of the event.

“The devastation that the pandemic caused caught the world unawares. Even as gated communities, cities and countries shut down their borders, we wanted to ensure the free flow of knowledge and information across countries and communities,” Sanjoy K. Roy, Managing Director of Teamwork Arts, said.

He added, “LF Brave New World was born out of this intention and grossed over 160 episodes and 4.8 million viewers. As we look ahead to 2021, we look forward to hosting the Jaipur Literature Festival, bringing to our viewers the best thinkers from across the world and presenting varied points of views and themes.” In the past, Jaipur Literature Festival had witnessed several controversies including that which arose from an invitation to author Salman Rushdie and excerpts from his book, The Satanic Verses, being read at the festival as well as protests against Taslima Nasreen's visit to the festival.
